Upcoming Nighttime Road Work on Duke Street

The City of Alexandria will be conducting repair work on Duke Street between Van Dorn Street and S. Walker Street from March 23 through May 30, 2026.

Work will take place overnight between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM. During these hours, partial road closures may occur. All travel lanes impacted by construction will be fully restored during daytime hours.

At least one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open on Duke Street while work is underway. However, there may be brief traffic holds of up to 15 minutes at a time to allow crews to safely complete certain activities.

Traffic control devices will be installed in accordance with approved Maintenance of Traffic plans to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and construction crews. Detours and traffic patterns will be monitored by a professional certified in VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control, in accordance with state standards.

All businesses along Duke Street will remain open during construction.
